Must read

A roadside bomb exploded on Tuesday night in Hakkari’s Yüksekova district, killing 25-year-old Nurcan Karakaya and her 11-month-old infant.

According to reports in the Turkish media, the bomb was detonated by remote control by Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorists as Karakaya was returning from a visit to her soldier husband at a military base.

“The PKK was a baby-killer 40 years ago, and it’s a baby-killer today,” Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu said after the incident.

An operation to capture the assailants is underway in the area.

The pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) released a statement condemning the attack and extending condolences to the Karakaya family. Several HDP deputies, including Ahmet Şık and Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu, also condemned the bombing.

The bodies of the deceased were sent to Şarkışla in central Turkey’s Sivas province, where funeral services are expected within the next day, according to the state-run Anadolu news agency.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is expected to attend the funeral.
