Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli on Monday reiterated his call for a general amnesty that would exclude Gülen-linked suspects and Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants, the Cumhuriyet daily reported.

“We will not step back from our stance,” Bahçeli said, adding: “It is not difficult for the government put a general amnesty on its agenda. There must be a general amnesty.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan rejected the suggestion on May 13.

“This proposal belongs to Mr. Bahçeli. We, with our government, definitely have no such plan,” said Erdoğan.

Bahçeli’s call for a general amnesty includes notorious gang leaders Alaattin Çakıcı and Kürşat Yılmaz, who have both been convicted of various crimes.

The MHP chairman on May 23 visited Çakıcı at a hospital in the central province of Kırıkkale.

Bahçeli has formed an alliance with ruling the Justice and Development Party (AKP) in advance of snap parliamentary and presidential elections on June 24.
