Report: Diyanet mosque in Germany set on fire

Berlin’s Kocasinan Mosque, managed by the Turkish-Islamic Union for Religious Affairs (DİTİB), part of Turkey’s Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet), was set on fire early Sunday, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported.

According to the report, an eyewitness said the fire started before 2 a.m. in the cafeteria and at the entry to the mosque complex, located in Berlin’s Reinickendorf district, and other witnesses saw two masked people throw flammable materials into the mosque before running away.

Berlin police launched an investigation into the possibility of arson after noting that a window of the mosque cafeteria was broken.

The mosque is now in unusable condition, Anadolu reported.
