Turkey has expressed satisfaction with a resolution adopted by the United Nations Security Council on Saturday calling for a 30-day cease-fire in Syria to allow the delivery of emergency aid and the evacuation of the wounded in some of Syria’s hardest-hit areas, including Eastern Ghouta.

“We welcome the resolution adopted by the UN Security Council today in response to the worsening humanitarian situation all across Syria, in particular in Eastern Ghouta,” said Hami Aksoy, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a written statement on Saturday.

“Turkey, while continuing to extend humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people to relieve their suffering and support the efforts of the international community, particularly the UN, will at the same time maintain efforts to end the conflict that lies at the core of the humanitarian crisis in Syria and will remain resolute in fighting against the terrorist organizations that threaten the territorial integrity and political unity of Syria.”
