Anadolu reporter injured in Afrin rocket attack

Anadolu reporter Sarp Özel

Sarp Özer, a reporter for the state-run Anadolu news agency, was injured on Friday in a rocket attack in the Afrin region of Syria.

According to an Anadolu report, Özer, who was covering the Turkish military operation in Afrin, sustained injuries to his arm and leg when a rocket reportedly fired by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) militia landed nearby.

Özer was taken to Kilis Hospital following the attack.

Turkey on Jan. 20 launched a military operation in Afrin, which is controlled by the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Union Party (PYD), the political wing of the YPG. Turkey sees the PYD as the Syrian extension of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
