Arrest warrant issued for son of former top court judge over Bylock use

Must read

An Ankara court on Friday issued an arrest warrant for Fatih Samed Kılıç, son of Haşim Kılıç, the former head of the Constitutional Court, for alleged use of a smart phone application known as ByLock, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported on Friday.

According to the report, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office sought the arrest warrant after it was confirmed that Kılıç had left the country. The Ankara 2nd Penal Court of Peace issued the warrant for Kılıç.

Turkish authorities believe ByLock is a communication tool among followers of the Gülen movement, which is accused by the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government of orchestrating a failed coup, a claim the movement denies.

Haşim Kılıç is known for his critical views of a presidential system that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan asked to people to approve in a referendum on April 16, 2017.

Haşim Kılıç was the head of the Constitutional Court when it refused to close down Erdoğan’s AKP by a six to five vote in 2008.
