The Turkish government on Tuesday stated that it is “concerned of the news that the demonstrations which started in Iran on 28 December 2017 are spreading and that there is loss of lives and public buildings are damaged.”
In addition to the statement, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu also called his Iranian counterpart, Javad Zarif, on Tuesday, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported.
In the foreign ministry statement Ankara underlined “the great importance of the preservation of peace and stability of friendly and brotherly Iran.”
Recalling Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s statement that “people have the right to peaceful protest but should not violate the laws and damage public buildings,” the statement said: “We believe that it is necessary to refrain from violence and not to give way to provocation.”
“We wish peace gets restored in the country as soon as possible and common sense prevails for preventing escalation while inflammatory discourse and external interventions are avoided,” Ankara added.
