Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Monday that the United States has become a partner in bloodshed with its recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, the state-run TRT Haber reported.

“Those who make life miserable for Muslims and other faiths in Jerusalem will never wash the blood off their hands. The United States has become a partner in the bloodshed with its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital,” Erdoğan said at a program to mark Human Rights Day in Turkey’s of capital Ankara.

“Since the very beginning, the United States and European countries have carried out policies to pave the way for Israel. In 1947 there was no such country called Israel. Since then it has started, and Palestine has been shredded and handed to Israel. The West did this,” Erdoğan added.

“This fight will never come to an end until an independent and sovereign Palestinian state is established under the 1967 borders and with eastern Jerusalem as its capital city.”

Erdoğan also said the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation would hold an extraordinary summit in Istanbul on Wednesday to discuss US President Donald Trump’s decision on the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, which the Turkish president said does not bind Turkey or the Muslim world.

“Those who don’t side with the oppressed and the righteous on this issue have no right to say a word about regional and global peace or human rights. We will monitor statements about Palestine and Jerusalem and will give marks to every country accordingly,” he added.

Erdogan refers to prophecy for Jerusalem

Erdoğan also made reference to a widely circulated prophecy of hunting down and killing Jews, saying, “Those who think they own Jerusalem should know that tomorrow they won’t even be able to hide behind trees.”
