Turkey condemns Trump’s decision on Jerusalem as Israeli capital

Must read

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on Wednesday condemned a decision by US President Donald Trump to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Çavuşoğlu said in a tweet: “We condemn the irresponsible statement of the US Administration declaring that it recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and it will be moving the US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. This decision is against international law and relevant UN Resolutions.”

Earlier on Wednesday Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said the US move to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital could cause indignation in the Islamic world and lead to new clashes in the region.

Speaking during a press conference with King Abdullah II of Jordan in Ankara on Wednesday, Erdoğan said, “We are also inviting Israel to pursue policies that will contribute to peace and security.”

Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member state leaders will convene for an extraordinary meeting in Istanbul on Dec. 13 to present a joint action on the move, Erdoğan also said.

He had telephone conversations with the leaders of Islamic states including Qatar and Saudi Arabia regarding the US administration decision on Jerusalem.
