Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on Saturday said Turkey is waiting to see US President Donald Trump keep his promise about not supplying weapons to Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) militia in Syria, the DHA news agency reported.

Following a phone call on Friday between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Trump, Çavuşoğulu said the US president promised that no more US weapons would be sent to the YPG.

“It is our right to wait for Mr. Trump to keep his promise. ‘I don’t want any weapons to be given [to the YPG], in fact, this nonsense should have ended a long time ago,’ he said, telling our Mr. President that weapons would no longer be sent to them. Of course, we want to see it put into practice,” Çavuşoğlu told reporters in Antalya on Saturday.

“Because, a country like the US should not have business with terrorist organizations.”
Turkey views the YPG as the Syrian extension of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
