Businessman detained on arrival at Konya Airport for links to Gülen movement

Metin T., a Turkish businessman who arrived in Turkey from Romania on Friday, was detained at Konya Airport as part of an ongoing investigation into him for alleged links to the Gülen movement, which is accused by Turkish authorities of being behind a failed coup last year.

According to the state-run Anadolu news agency, police detained the businessman at Konya Airport as he has been sought for 13 months under an outstanding arrest warrant.

Metin T. is accused of being one of the business sector representatives of the Gülen movement in Konya’s Şeydişehir district.

Despite Turkish Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen, whose views inspired the Gülen movement, and the movement having denied the accusations, 50,510 people have been arrested and 169,013 have been the subject of legal proceedings on coup charges since the failed coup, Turkey’s Justice Ministry announced on July 13.
