Pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Co-chairperson Selahattin Demirtaş has said all “democracy powers” should attend a “Justice Congress” to be organized by the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) in Çanakkale from Aug. 26 to Aug. 30.
Jailed HDP deputy Demirtaş, who spoke to Evrensel daily reporter Kamil Tekin Sürek on Monday, said: “We should be able to tell those who used to vote for the Justice and Development Party [AKP] but do not want to vote for it anymore why they should vote for the democracy front, and clearly and openly announce what we want to do, that is, to plan a minimum program. People should not think I will be unemployed, I cannot pay my rent, I will have to close shop if the AKP loses; we should tell them they will not only enjoy rights and freedoms, but that their bread will get bigger, their children will be employed and their income will grow.”
CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu is organizing the Justice Congress in order to discuss judicial problems in Turkey together with other opposition groups. A CHP deputy invited everyone who has a complaint about justice to attend the congress, in which party logos will not be used.
The decision to organize a congress came in the wake of a 25-day “March of Justice” from Ankara to İstanbul in protest of the arrest of CHP deputy Enis Berberoğlu.
