A 1,500-year-old mosaic with ancient Greek inscriptions found in the village of Eskiköy in Adıyaman province has been taken to a warehouse owned by the Adıyaman Culture and Museum Directorate, CNN Türk reported on Monday.

After permission was secured from the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums, staff members from the Gaziantep Restoration and Conservation Laboratory District Directorate and Adıyaman Museum Directorate officials removed the mosaic.

The mosaic, upon which “This holy church was adorned with mosaics during the days when the almighty and sacred Maranas visited this place with the support of Maranas” is written, was discovered after excavations by Adıyaman Museum Assistant Director Mehmet Alkan.
