11 terrorists ‘neutralized’; 6 civilians, soldiers, killed in Turkey’s Southeast

Eleven members of the outlawed the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) have been “neutralized” in military operations in Hakkari, Ağrı and Şırnak provinces, according to the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK), while six people, including two military officers in Bitlis province, have been killed by the PKK, Turkish media reported on Sunday.

Two terrorists in Hakkari’s Yüksekova district were neutralized after attempting to attack a police post near the entrance of Selahattin Eyyubi Airport.

In Ağrı province, four terrorists were neutralized by the Ağrı Provincial Gendarmerie Command, which opened fire with F-16 jet fighters.

Five terrorists in Şırnak who claimed to be running away from the PKK surrendered to the security forces.

Four people were killed in Hakkari province after the PKK attacked two trucks carrying construction equipment and two cars.

In Bitlis province, two military officers were slain and one was wounded when the PKK blew up previously placed improvised explosives as they were passing by in a vehicle.

According to a Hürriyet daily report, 269 have been detained in the last three days as part of operations against the PKK.

Turkish authorities had conducted direct talks with jailed PKK chief Abdullah Öcalan for several years until a truce in effect collapsed in the summer of 2015. Since then, there have been heavy clashes between the PKK and Turkish security forces.
