‘March of Justice’ reaches İstanbul on its 23rd day

Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu (C) gestures as he poses in front of an İstanbul road sign on the 23rd day of the "March of Justice" in İstanbul, on July 7, 2017. Kılıçdaroğlu is on the final stage of a 450-kilometre (280-mile) march from Ankara to İstanbul to protest at the legal system under President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

A “March of Justice” launched by Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu on June 15 to protest the arrest of a CHP deputy reached İstanbul on its 23rd day on Friday.

Kılıçdaroğlu, who expressed relief over reaching İstanbul without anyone getting hurt, said the search for justice is going to continue after the end of the march.

The March of Justice from Ankara to İstanbul was initiated in protest of the arrest of CHP deputy Enis Berberoğlu, who was sentenced to 25 years in prison on June 14 for leaking information for a report on National Intelligence Organization (MİT) trucks transporting weapons to jihadists in Syria.

Every day, thousands of people have accompanied Kılıçdaroğlu, who plans to finish the march with a mass rally in İstanbul on July 9.

The CHP leader also commented on a European Parliament (EP) resolution advising the freeze of accession talks with Turkey and adopted by the EP on Thursday.

“We want justice for everyone. Turkey is not only composed of the AKP [ruling Justice and Development Party]. I hope they [EP] decide to continue relations with Turkey by supporting our search for justice,” said Kılıçdaroğlu.
