Mehmet Fırat, a candidate for deputy from Hakkari for the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in 2015, has claimed terrorists tried to break into his house Saturday night to assassinate him, CNN Türk reported on Sunday.
According to the report, Fırat, who spoke to the İhlas news agency (İHA), said his brother, who lives downstairs, grabbed his gun and woke him up after hearing someone at the door.
“We looked out the window and saw people in camouflage very close to the house. When my brother started shooting, they ran away,” said Fırat.
Fırat said the police have launched an investigation into the incident.
Orhan Mercan (34), the deputy chairman of the AKP in Diyarbakır’s Lice district, and Aydın Ahi, the deputy chairman of the AKP in the Özalp district of Van province, were killed in separate armed attacks on Friday and Saturday night.
