The whereabouts of the bodies of two unborn infants remain unknown, eight months after a miscarriage suffered by Nurhayat Yıldız in prison last October, the Aktifhaber news website reported on Thursday.
Arrested following her detention on Aug. 29, 2016 for use of the ByLock mobile app, Yildiz miscarried twins in the 19th week of her pregnancy, on Oct. 6, 2016.
Yildiz has been kept in a cell meant to accommodate eight with 25 other inmates at Sinop Prison, Aktifhaber said.
Family members say Yildiz has been suffering from psychological trauma and barely speaks.
Under investigation over ties to the Gülen movement, Yildiz was apprehended after a cousin reported her to the police for ties to the Gülen movement, which the government accuses of masterminding a coup attempt on July 15, 2016.
Among the evidence the prosecutor overseeing the case mentioned to demand her arrest is her alleged use of the ByLock mobile app and $1 bills police seized during a raid on her home.
Yildiz says she has never downloaded ByLock, which Turkish authorities claim to be the top communications tool among members of the movement.
The Turkish government also claims that one dollar bills are an encrypted messaging system among members of the movement.
Yildiz says the seized $1 notes were bills that were scattered during her brother’s wedding.
It is a tradition that guests as well as the parents of couples toss paper money onto the heads of people dancing during wedding and circumcision ceremonies. (Turkey Purge)
