Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on Tuesday that he would visit Qatar and possibly the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia if diplomats are able to arrange meetings, as part of efforts to resolve a diplomatic crisis in the Gulf region.

Speaking at a press conference with the Burundi foreign minister on Tuesday, Çavuşoğlu said he would visit Qatar and meet with the emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani and his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, to discuss the latest developments in the region. He also said he might visit Saudi Arabia as well and that the Turkish side is waiting for the Saudis to respond.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Tuesday that Saudi King Salman – the eldest statesman in the Gulf – must show leadership and resolve a crisis with Qatar that erupted last week after several countries in the region, including Saudi Arabia, severed ties with Doha over its support for terrorist groups.
