Ankara and Moscow have agreed on all technical aspects of a contract to supply Turkey with long-range Russian S-400 Triumph defense systems, Russian officials said on Wednesday.
According to Russia’s TASS news agency, Victor Kladov, director of international cooperation and regional policy at Rostec, a state-owned corporation that produces the S–400 systems, said a Turkish delegation visited Russia’s intermediary agency Rosoboronexport to discuss a potential deal but that no contract has yet been signed.
“We, as suppliers, demonstrate the technical and technological readiness to supply this type of equipment, this is the essence of technical negotiations,” Kladov said.
According to a story on Russia’s state-owned Russia Beyond The Headlines (RBTH) website, Rostec CEO Sergey Chemezov said Ankara is ready to buy the S-400 Triumph if a loan is granted by Moscow.
“Turkey also wants to get joint production of the anti-ballistic missile system on its territory. Yet Russia isn’t ready to agree on this issue,” RBTH reported.
The S-400 Triumph (or SA-21 Growler) defense systems are capable of intercepting all types of warplanes and rockets, including fifth generation fighter jets and ballistic missiles, at a range of 400 kilometers.
