Turkey on Monday reacted to a decision by seven Muslim countries to cut off diplomatic relations with Qatar due to its alleged support for terrorism while calling for dialogue to resolve the crisis.
“We are saddened by the current picture. We will give all the support we can for normalization of the situation,” said Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu during a joint press conference with his German counterpart, Sigmar Gabriel in Ankara.
Underlining that Turkey perceives the stability of the Gulf region as if it were its own, Çavuşoğlu said: “Dialogue should be continued under any condition so that problems can be resolved peacefully.”
Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Yemen, Libya and Maldives severed their ties with Qatar on Monday, accusing it of supporting terrorism.
Saudi state news agency SPA said Qatar embraces multiple terrorist and sectarian groups aimed at disrupting stability in the region, including the Muslim Brotherhood, the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and al-Qaeda, and constantly promotes the messages and schemes of these groups through their media.
