The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) held an executive body meeting on Monday and named the party’s new administrators under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who was elected as its chairman on May 21.
During the meeting of the AKP’s Central Decision and Administration Board (MKYK), Prime Minister and former AKP Chairman Binali Yıldırım was appointed deputy chairman of the AKP. Erdoğan closest aides in the party consist of 12 male and three female AKP members.
Former Culture and Tourism Minister and AKP Kahramanmaraş deputy Mahir Ünal has been appointed as party spokesperson.
Erdoğan for the first time attended an MKYK meeting after being elected party chairman, and he is expected to reshuffle his Cabinet after shaking up his team in the party.
After 51.4 percent of the Turkish electorate voted in favor of constitutional amendments in a referendum on April 16, Erdoğan was able to once again become a member of the AKP and subsequently its chairman.
