Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on Sunday that the Netherlands put the Turkish chargé d’affaires in a cell at a police station, calling on the European Union show a reaction, Hürriyet reported.

“They put our chargé d’affaires in a cell at a police station. They have to make a statement, but we have not seen anything. We see the solidarity in the European Union. We want the Europeans to also frankly state that these fascist practices of the Netherlands are wrong. They should not dare to give us lessons,” said Çavuşoğlu while evaluating what happened in the Netherland on Saturday.

“We said the [Dutch] ambassador [Cornelis Van Rij] should not return [to Turkey]. We want a written apology to the Turkish nation,” said Çavuşoğlu.

Turkish Minister of Family and Social Policy Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya was expelled from the Netherlands on Saturday night after she was prevented by police from entering the Turkish consulate residence in Rotterdam to deliver a campaign rally speech.

The Netherlands earlier on Saturday had canceled the flight clearance for Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu’s aircraft to land in the country, also to attend a rally.
