The number of Turkish soldiers killed during Operation Euphrates Shield has risen to 69 with the latest losses as a result of Russia’s airstrike on a building occupied by Turkish forces in northern Syria.
Eleven soldiers were wounded on Thursday, one critically, in the Russian offensive, which it claims was accidental.
Earlier on Thursday, five more Turkish soldiers were killed and 10 others were injured in an attack perpetrated by Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorists in Syria’s al-Bab region.
As part of Operation Euphrates Shield, Turkey sent tanks across the border to help Syrian rebels drive ISIL from the border city of Jarabulus in late August, in a dramatic escalation of its involvement in the Syrian civil war.
Five other soldiers were killed and 12 others were injured in another ISIL attack in the same area on Wednesday.
