CHP deputy claims fraudulent voting by ruling AKP deputies in Parliament

Main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) parliamentary group deputy chairman Levent Gök has said ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) deputies cast votes on behalf of their absent colleagues during a vote in Parliament on Friday, which is against regulations.

After a vote in the General Assembly on an amendment to a government retirement fund bill, Gök filed an objection with Deputy Speaker Akif Hamzaçebi when it emerged some AKP deputies were on the list of legislators who had voted despite the fact that they were not in attendance.

After Gök claimed that there was no quorum for the meeting, Hamzaçebi took a roll call. When the papers in the ballot box were checked by officials, it became clear that some AKP deputies had cast votes on behalf of colleagues who were absent.

While Gök asked officials to investigate the incident, Hamzaçebi adjourned the meetings until Monday.
