The Russian ambassador to Turkey, Andrei Karlov, who was assassinated by a Turkish police officer on Monday, was laid to rest on Thursday in a funeral attended by President Vladimir Putin.
A service was held at Christ the Savior Cathedral in Moscow for Karlov, who was gunned down at an art gallery in Ankara on Dec. 19.
While Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan put the blame for the murder on the Gülen movement as he did for a coup attempt on July 15, Russian officials have stated that it is too early to determine the identity and affiliations of the assassin.
Meanwhile on Wednesday, Jaish al-Fatah, an umbrella organization that encompasses the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front, reportedly claimed responsibility for the murder of Karlov.
