Kılıçdaroğlu asks why assassin of Russian envoy was not caught alive

Must read

Main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu questioned the killing of the gunman who assassinated the Russian ambassador to Ankara yesterday, suggesting that catching him alive would have helped the investigation.

Calling the assassination of Russian Ambassador Andrei Karlov a “heinous attack,” Kılıçdaroğlu said such an incident is not befitting of Turkey as he directed attention to the fact that the gunman was a 22-year-old policeman who had entered the police force in 2014.

According to Kılıçdaroğlu, if a foreigner is assassinated in Turkey, there is a serious problem. The main opposition leader also urged officials to find the “instigator” of the assassination. Strongly condemning the attack, Kılıçdaroğlu criticized the government for not taking any responsibility in the face of increasing terrorist attacks in the country.

“Who is politically responsible for all of this?” asked Kılıçdaroğlu after mentioning the deaths of 843 security force members since July 20. In reaction to security breaches, Kılıçdaroğlu asked: “Is there no intelligence service in this country?”

Criticizing the government for embracing “jihadist groups,” Kılıçdaroğlu said that in order to prevent terror, one should not send arms to jihadists and protect them.
