HDP Iğdır deputy Adıyaman released after brief detention

Mehmet Emin Adıyaman, a deputy from the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) from Iğdır province, who was detained in the southeastern province of Gaziantep late on Sunday, was released on Monday.

The news about Adıyaman’s detention was announced by HDP Gaziantep deputy Mahmut Toğrul in the early hours of Monday.

Adıyaman was reportedly detained on the grounds that he did not go to court to testify as part of a terror trial. He was brought to Ankara from Gaziantep. In Ankara, he appeared before a court where he denied the terror charges. He was subsequently released.

There are already 12 HDP deputies including the party’s co-chairs who are behind bars. The Turkish government has recently stepped up its crackdown on the HDP under the pretext of fighting against terrorism.
