Deputy PM says Turkey to set up tent city for 80,000 refugees fleeing Aleppo

Turkish deputy prime minister Mehmet Şimşek

Turkey’s Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Şimşek said on Tuesday that Turkey will set up a tent city with a capacity of up to 80,000 people for refugees fleeing Aleppo.

In a series tweets from his personal Twitter account, Şimşek said Turkey is currently hosting around 2.7 million Syrians.

According to an agreement between Russia, the Syrian government’s main ally, and Turkey, Syrian rebels were preparing to withdraw from Aleppo on Wednesday.

Syrian government forces, aided by Russia’s air force and Iran’s Shi’ite militias, took full control of Aleppo early this week after heavy bombardment on parts of the city controlled by rebels.
