Police investigating car bomb and suicide bomber attacks on Saturday night that killed 44 people have discovered that the car involved in one attack had been driven around İstanbul for 12 hours before it exploded.
Turkish media reported on Tuesday that a young male terrorist called Murat received the car from a man named Tufan B. after he purchased it on Dec. 6 from a private party.
The police tracked the car by reviewing security camera footage across İstanbul. According to the recordings, the bomb-laden car was detected on Vatan Avenue, where police headquarters in İstanbul are located.
There were reportedly two terrorists in the car, one a woman with a headscarf, to create the impression of a family. The car was last seen on security cameras at 3:28 p.m., and the explosion took place that same night.
The Kurdistan Freedom Hawks (TAK), an offshoot of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), on Sunday claimed responsibility for twin bomb attacks that hit one of İstanbul’s central districts.
