Detention warrants were issued on Saturday for 55 people in İstanbul, with police searching 57 homes, part of a wave of detentions in Turkey’s ongoing purge following a failed coup on July 15.
The people are accused of involvement in coup plotting and making donations to the Gülen movement. The government holds the movement responsible for the botched coup of July 15 as it collectively detains and arrests people who are deemed to be connected to the movement.
Nearly 40,000 people have been arrested as part of the purge, while thousands of others were or have been under custody without the benefit of due process.
The Venice Commission on Friday warned Turkey about human rights violations, saying that the measures have gone too far since there is no judicial review of decisions made under a state of emergency that was declared post-July 15.
