Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said on Thursday that a parliamentary commission would be established in Parliament to investigate a dormitory fire in Adana that killed 12 people, 11 of them young girls, and determine necessary measures to be taken to improve safety in student dormitories in Turkey.
Speaking during a meeting of the Turkish Industrialists and Businessmen’s Association (TÜSİAD) in Ankara, Yıldırım stated that the Adana dormitory fire would be evaluated by the investigation commission and measures to prevent future incidents would be decided.
“Our hope is that we don’t have to suffer similar grief. However, wherever there are people, there will always be errors. No matter how excellent the devices you develop are, whatever you do, mankind has not yet been able to develop any device to eliminate human error,” he said.
Eleven schoolgirls and one dormitory staff member died in the fire that broke out at a private girls dormitory in the Aladağ district of Adana province on Tuesday night.
