CHP leader Kılıçdaroğlu calls on government act cautiously in Syria

Main Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has called on the government to act cautiously in Syria after three Turkish soldiers were killed in an air attack by Syrian regime forces in Aleppo province on Thursday.

“This can drag Turkey into a very dangerous process. At this moment, I will not say more than recommend that the government act cautiously,” said Kılıçdaroğlu at a meeting in Ankara on Thursday.

“Turkey was a balancing power in the region. I believe acting cautiously is important.”

The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) announced on Thursday that 10 soldiers were also injured in the attack, which took place on the 93rd day of Turkey’s Euphrates Shield Operation in Syria.

Turkey sent tanks across the border to help Syrian rebels drive the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) from the border city of Jarabulus in late August in a dramatic escalation of its involvement in the Syrian civil war. The attack marks the first intervention by Syrian regime forces targeting Turkish soldiers since the launch of the operation.
