Former pro-Kurdish HDP deputy detained in Tunceli

Former deputy of pro-Kurdish People's Democratic Party (HDP) and former co-mayor of Tunceli province Edibe Şahin

Turkish police on Wednesday detained former deputy from the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) and former co-mayor of Tunceli province Edibe Şahin on charges of links to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

As part of an investigation launched by the Tunceli Public Prosecutor’s Office, counterterrorism police raided Şahin’s residence in Tunceli and conducted a search of the premises.

Police seized computers, mobile phones, cameras, memory cards and CDs during the raid, and Şahin was taken into police custody.

In late October, 11 lawmakers from the HDP, including its co-chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ, were arrested after police raided their houses as part of investigations over alleged links to the PKK.
