CHP expels 3,896 members who did not vote for party in Nov. 1 elections

The main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) has expelled 3,896 of its members after discovering that they did not vote for the CHP in the general elections held on Nov. 1.

A Central Executive Board (MYK) report submitted to the CHP party council included information about ballot boxes in which no votes were cast for the CHP in the Nov. 1 elections. When the party found out that 3,896 of its members had cast their votes in these ballot boxes, the party decided to part its ways with these individuals.

In an earlier statement, CHP Deputy Chairman Tekin Bingöl called for terminating the party membership of those who “did not properly carry this [party] identity and who avoided voting for their own party.”

The CHP garnered 25.3 percent of the nationwide vote in the Nov. 1 elections and won 134 seats in Parliament.
