İlhan Fidan, the brother of İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor İrfan Fidan, who is known for his firm stance against the Gülen movement and support for the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government, was dismissed from his job as teacher at a state school in Ordu province on Thursday over links to the Gülen movement.
According to a story in the Cumhuriyet daily on Thursday, İlhan Fidan was dismissed as part of a government decree purging teachers in state jobs over alleged links to the Gülen movement, whose sympathizers the government accuses of masterminding a failed coup attempt on July 15.
While İlhan Fidan denied all accusations and claimed that he has submitted the necessary documents to the state authorities to clear himself, Cumhuriyet claimed that he was known in Ordu as the organizer of many Gülen movement events such as the 10th Turkish Olympiads in 2012 in Ordu.
İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor İrfan Fidan was appointed to his position on July 26 after serving as a prosecutor in the Terror and Organized Crimes Unit of the İstanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office, where he oversaw a number of cases targeting Gülen movement sympathizers.
Despite US-based Turkish scholar Fethullah Gülen, inspirer of the Gülen movement, having rejected all accusations against him and the movement, the AKP government pinned the blame on him for the failed coup and dismissed over 110,000 people from state jobs over links to Gülen.
