1,738 detained while illegally crossing Turkish borders on Sunday

The Turkish military stated on Monday that 1,738 people were caught by border police while attempting to illegally cross Turkish borders on Sunday, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported.

According to the statement, 1,594 people were apprehended while illegally trying to enter Turkey from Syria, while five were detained attempting to cross into Syria from Turkey.

Turkish border guards caught 62 people who were trying to slip into Turkey from Iraq. One person was detained as he was illegally entering Turkey from Iran.

On the same day, 76 people were apprehended while illegally trying to cross the borders to Bulgaria and Greece.
