Second ISIL rocket hits Kilis in one day

Following the landing of a rocket in Kilis on Thursday that wounded six, the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) fired another rocket in the late afternoon that again hit the Turkish border town.

The second rocket, which exploded near a primary school, injured 70-year-old Selma Savancı and 6-year-old Syrian refugee Semar Mayir.

Earlier in the day a rocket from an ISIL-controlled region of Syria hit the town and wounded six people, five of whom were children.

One of the ISIL rockets was fired in the late afternoon, hitting a shop in town. The Kilis Governor’s Office issued a statement confirming the incident.

The Turkish Armed Forces have reportedly hit ISIL targets in Syria in retaliation.

ISIL rocket attacks have become a frequent occurrence in Kilis. In 2016 alone, the town was hit by over 70 ISIL rockets, killing 21 people.
