A former deputy of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has been detained as part of an investigation into the Gülen movement, which the government accuses of masterminding the July 15 coup attempt.
Police detained İdris Şahin in Ankara on Wednesday.
Şahin also served as the deputy chairman of Parliament’s Constitution Commission during his tenure in the legislature between 2011 and 2015.
Turkey has already detained some 43,000 people and arrested 21,000 amid a crackdown following a failed coup in July. (Turkey Purge)
