The Turkish military has struck positions in the Syrian border town of Jarablus, which is controlled by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), in retaliation for rocket attacks from the town into the Turkish territory, state-run Anadolu news agency reported on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, the Turkish military has denied media reports of a possible ground incursion into Syria.
The military issued an official statement over reinforcement of border troops on Turkey-Syria border, saying that new measures are only meant to strengthen the forces to combat against smuggling and step up border security.
The military said media speculation and reports do not reflect the true nature of military activities across the border.
Anadolu said the military struck positions in Jarablus, which lies at the opposite side of the Turkish border town of Karkamis, after suspected ISIL rockets landed in the Turkish territory.
A suicide bomber blew himself up at a wedding party in southern province of Gaziantep province, killing more than 50 people and wounding dozens. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says the attacker was a 12 to 14 years old teenager.
The Turkish authorities believe that the ISIL carried out the attack.
