No talks with Syria in near future, but fixing ties is a must, Turkish PM says

Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said that Turkey is not planning to hold talks with Syria in the near future, however, it is a must to fix relations “after the dictatorship ends” in the country, in response to a question following renewal of ties with Israel and Russia.

“What could you possibly talk with a regime which killed over half a million people?” Yıldırım said, referring to the current Syrian government.

Yıldırım commented that the countries who are currently actors in Syria should stop their rivalry in order to stop the bloodshed. “Especially the coalition countries should abandon their individual interests,” Yıldırım said.

During the press conference on Tuesday, Yıldırım also told that the Ministry of Interior has been working on the government plan to grant citizenship to Syrian refugees. According to Yıldırım, those involved in terrorism or who have shady links will not be accepted as citizens.
