An arsenal buried in an İstanbul forest by the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) was found by the police on Thursday.
The weaponry included two Kalashnikovs, one Uzi submachine gun, 105 bullets, detonators used as explosive material, remote detonators, a large number of cell phones designed for bomb mechanisms and manuals on setting up bomb mechanisms. The items were reportedly sent from the predominantly Kurdish southeastern province of Diyarbakır and buried in İstanbul’s Aydos forest.
According to reports, the discovery was made after the blueprints pertaining to the arsenal’s location were found on a micro SD card carried by a recently detained suspect, whose initials were reported as “E.Ş.” Police cracked the encryption of the micro SD card and found the blueprints. After two days of examination, an excavation was carried out in the Aydos forest and the above mentioned material was found a meter below earth.
E.Ş., who brought the weapons to İstanbul over last winter, is reportedly a senior member of the Patriotic Revolutionary Youth Movement (YDG-H), which is linked to the PKK. The suspect was put under arrest on a court order following his testimony.
