3 soldiers injured in PKK bomb attack in Hakkari

Three soldiers were injured in a bomb attack by terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) members in Şemdinli district of southeastern Hakkari province on Wednesday.

Turkish media reported that a handmade bomb planted on a highway was detonated with a remote control while an armored police vehicle was passing by early on Wednesday.

The injured soldiers were taken to Şemdinli State Hospital for treatment.

District Governor Murat Öztürk arrived at the hospital to receive information about the incident.

Meanwhile, 8 more soldiers were injured when a military vehicle tumbled down on its side in Mardin’s Dargeçit district on Wednesday. The injured soldiers were taken to Midyat State Hospital for treatment.

The PKK is designated as a “terrorist organization” by the United States (US) and the European Union (EU), as well as Turkey. The 32-year-old conflict, which has claimed more than 40,000 lives, halted in March 2013 as part of the settlement process initiated between the PKK and the Turkish government. However, the PKK ended the ceasefire in the summer of 2015.
