Emergency meeting held in presidential palace following bomb attack

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan headed an emergency meeting at the presidential palace in Ankara on Tuesday, shortly after a bomb explosion claimed 11 lives and injured 36 people in a central İstanbul neighborhood.

Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Interior Minister Efkan Ala and Chief of National Intelligence Organization (MİT) Hakan Fidan reportedly participated in the meeting, which is expected to tackle security issues.

Seven police officers and four civilians died and 36 others were injured in a bomb attack that took place in İstanbul’s Beyazıt district at around 8.40 a.m. on Tuesday morning. The incident happened when a parked car loaded with explosives was remotely detonated while a bus carrying riot police was passing by it. Four people were detained by counter-terrorism police later in the day in relation to bomb attack.
