2 police officers killed, four others injured in PKK attacks in Southeast

Two police officers were killed and four other police officers were injured in separate terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) attacks in southeastern Turkey on Sunday.

One police officer was killed and three others were injured when explosives planted by the PKK terrorists exploded in Mardin’s Nusaybin district where there are ongoing clashes between the PKK and the Turkish security forces.

The second police officer was killed during clashes in Yüksekova district of Hakkari. One police officer was also injured during clashes in Yüksekova.

In the meantime, Turkey’s General Staff announced in a statement on Sunday that 13 PKK terrorists have been killed during clashes with the PKK in Mardin, Hakkari and Şırnak provinces while the bodies of two other PKK terrorists have been found.

A settlement process launched by the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government in late 2012 to end Turkey’s long-standing Kurdish problem collapsed following a two-year-cease-fire last July, triggering the worst violence in Turkey’s southeast since 1990s. Hundreds of civilians, security forces’ members as well as PKK terrorists have been killed in the region in the renewed conflict over the past months.
