3 military officers, village guard killed in PKK attacks in southeast Turkey

Three military officers, including a  major, were killed in an attack by members of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) while a 45-year-old village guard was also killed in a separate armed attack in the Nusaybin district of Mardin on Monday.

Terrorists fired rockets on a group of soldiers who were conducting operations against the PKK in the Dicle neighborhood early on Monday. A special sergeant, a major and a noncommissioned officer were killed in the attack while two other special sergeants were injured in the attack.

In the Girmeli neighborhood, Adnan Durak, a 45-year-old village guard, was attacked at a health care center where he brought his children for vaccination. The man was killed in front of his children.

A curfew was imposed in Nusaybin on March 14. Hundreds of militants, members of Turkish security services and civilians have been killed in Turkey since last summer, when a two and half years old fragile peace process fell apart.

The PKK is designated as a terrorist group by Ankara, Washington and Brussels. At least 40,000 people have been killed in clashes between Turkish forces and PKK militants since 1984.
