The deputy rector of a Turkish University who drew criticism after he said he “trusts illiterate people more than those who have had formal education,” claiming that it is the illiterate people who will “ensure the state survives,” has resigned from his post.
Speaking on KRT TV channel, Prof. Dr. Bülent Arı, the deputy rector of Sebahattin Zaim University said recently that he “becomes exasperated” when the literacy rate increases in Turkey.
“I prefer to trust the foresight of the ignorant and the illiterate in this country. The people who will make sure this country survives are the illiterates; the ignorant [people] and those who haven’t even studied primary school” Arı said.
“The most dangerous people in Turkey are the literates, professors and university graduates. Those people who can easiest understand events are primary school students, because their minds are clear. People at university and those [with] further [education] are in a perilous situation because their minds are muddled” he added.
Arı announced his resignation from his post after growing reactions, the Cumhuriyet daily reported on Tuesday.
